“A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.” ― George R.R. Martin

I chose this quote because it's very interesting and you have to think about it afterward. You are comparing two completely different things when you read this quote yet they connect to each other very easily ,when it says; 'To keep its edge" Then you can understand the meaning of the quote. This quote connects so me in a very literal way. Lots of the books i read are fantasy books or fiction novels. Most of the time, these types of books are set in medieval times with swords and bows and magic and all that. The quote itself is comparing swords to reading which connects to fantasy books very closely.

  1. This was a little confusing Jack. Why do you think minds need to keep their edge? Why do you think books can "keep its edge"? Could this quote be referring to what you get from books and how they help us understand things and provide us with new perspectives on everything? How do books help your mind "keep its edge"? I relate to this quote in a less literal way, as books help me to connect to things more implicitly than I ever would otherwise. Do books ever make you feel the same way? You have a few spelling and grammatical errors, such as correct quote settings and capitalisation, but otherwise, I think this is a good blog entry.

  2. I disagree, I think that this is a witty metaphor stating that books keep the mind working efficiently and sharply. Or to the contrary, without books, the mind is like an unsharpened sword, dull and useless. However I think that you probably could have explained that more effectively, stating that it was a metaphor, good other connection though and I loved the Quote. An good way to begin your blog.
